A very nice article on the Southern California arm of the R Gruppe in the current issue of Porsche Klassik. This is hands down the best German Porsche magazine, so if you're in Germany I strongly advise you to run to the newsstand and buy it.
And of course I love the fact that Roger put on my t-shirt for the photo shoot. Thanks, Rog!

This is an older bit from evo Magazine. I think 'epic' describes it best. Thanks to the Dutchman for digging it out.

I've been having a real good conversation with Scott Schmeiser in which we exchanged ideas for hot rod Porsche projects. We also talked about trunk mounted oil tanks, but neither one of us had anything to do with these so far. Looking for info about it on the web I came across this picture of a really neat setup, obviously built by Andial. Since I know the fine people at Andial, I decided to give them a call and see what they could tell me. I talked to Dieter, and what he told me was not exactly a how-to, but nonetheless very useful information. Thought I'd share it with you:
Be aware of the relative height of tank-out vs. engine-in, be generous with the diameter of the supply (suction) line, use stock diameters on pressure lines. When fabricating the tank put
vertical baffles in the bottom and a horizontal baffle between max oil level and the oil return. The return into tank should be at an angle pointing towards the inside wall.
By the way, the car in the above picture started out as a 1969 912 and matured into, well, something different. The oil tank is a 935 part. I have no further details on the car, but it sure
looks slightly more exciting than a stock 912.
This is Dieter in the orange jacket. The car is a 908/02 Spyder, the place is Vaca Valley Raceway, the time is 1972. Talk about experience. Thanks, Dieter!

A buddy of mine is selling his 997.2 GT3 Clubsport. I can hardly think of a reason for why you would want to get rid of a GT3, but he has a valid one: He needs room in the garage and a budget for a more exciting project, an outlaw 911. I like the way he thinks. That's why I thought I'd post it here to help him find a good home for the GT3.
The car is a 2010 model from 10/2009. It really is immaculate, always garaged and well taken care of, only driven in the summer, no dings, dents or scratches. It has 25300 km, most of it long distance travels, and although it looks like a track day machine, it was never raced. The car is foiled in sort of slate grey (a 4000 Euro job, really well done), but underneath it's white. It has the extended roll cage for the front and sits on OZ Ultraleggeras w/ Pilot Sports. Apart from that it has pretty much all the bells and whistles you could ask for.
He's asking 99700 Euros.
Contact me for more info if you're interested. And I mean interested in buying, not interested in the specs;) Thanks!

I love this video for two reasons: one is the car, which is properly insane, the other is the conversation between Chris Harris and Richard Tuthill, which is just hilarious. Enjoy.

Hoeing Sportmotoren proudly endorses Mathé Classic Additive as an engine assembly lubricant. Only remotely related, but very cool: The car nuts from Chromjuwelen have teamed up with the fine people at Mathé to bring you an engine oil which is custom tailored to the needs of classic cars. Excuse me? Yes, classic Porsches too. Go check it out, it's well worth it!

This engine was in need of new head studs, so I thought I'd give the ones from ARP a shot. Before ordering, I called the R&D at ARP to ask about their properties compared to Dilavar. In a nutshell, I was assured that they'd do just what the Dilavar ones do, only better, and that they are made out of Inconel. How Inconel matches Dilavar as far as heat expansion properties is beyond me, but since ARP knows their bolts and this engine is of the not-so-stressed 964 type I figure they'll do their job just fine. If anyone out there has experience with these studs I'd be interested to hear from you. Cheers.

This is a detail picture of a Ruf 993 Turbo engine during disassembly. A VW T4 built by TH Automobile is what this motor calls home. So, what do you do with a 550hp all wheel drive bus? Exactly, you use it as appropriate transportation on your many skiing trips to the austrian alps.
The salt used on roads in Austria has done what you usually only see on older magnesium parts -pretty remarkable, if you ask me. Which takes me to this interesting as well as entertaining little film in which Kevin Jeannette mentions 'the magnesium maggots'. Enjoy.

What we have here is a burned piston and a cylinder with chipped coating. The cause is distributor belt failure. Have that belt visually inspected with every maintenance and changed after 80,000kms. And if you don't have a vent line on your early 964's distributor, get one.

Frank Kayser called me up last year. Here's kind of how it went:
Frank: Hey Matthias, I'm doing this killer campaign for Porsche Motorsport and there's this scene we're shooting at the museum with a 917, sort of McQueen Le Mans style, and I thought you'd like to...-
Me: I'M IN!
So he flew me out to Stuttgart, drove me to the (closed to the public) museum, put me in a funny suit and told me to look at this 917 while he was taking pictures. I'd never been to the Porsche Museum before so of course I was absolutely stoked to see it myself. The above picture was taken by Brett Sloan who was there with Michael Pollack filming a documentary about the making of the campaign. Go check out Brett's tumblr, he's got cool pictures for days.

If you like vintage racing footage starring Porsches as much as I do then this for you. It seems to be a "factory" recap of the 1970 World Championship. There are four parts with a combined runtime of about 45 minutes so sit back and enjoy!

I did not know that the late 90s are considered the early years, but maybe I'm just getting old. Anyway, this clip gave me goose bumps. Well done, PAG!
